Begin with plumbers who actually serve your area and have a real, claimed profile. A verified listing with a working phone number, an address and recent reviews is far safer than an anonymous number from a classified ad.
Get two or three quotes for anything beyond a small repair. The cheapest quote is not always the best — look at what is included (parts, labour, clean-up, warranty). A quote that is far below the others often means corners will be cut or extras will appear later.
A deposit for materials on a large job is normal, but avoid paying the full amount up front. Pay the balance once the work is finished and you have checked it.
Read recent reviews, check that the listing is claimed and verified, and ask for a written estimate. A reliable plumber is happy to explain the work and stand behind it.
